Module 1: The Biblical Child (Mornings 10:00 – 12:30)

Facilitator: Dr Jessie Rogers

Participants will explore how the child is depicted in the Bible and look at how the Bible has been adapted for and communicated to children. We will discover aspects of the life of a child in biblical times, learn how to do a ‘childist’ reading of selected Old and New Testament texts, and analyse the verbal and visual choices of the adults who ‘repackage’ bible stories for children.

Module 2: The Liturgical Child (Afternoons 14:00 – 16:30)

Facilitator: Dr John-Paul Sheridan

Participants will be introduced to an understanding of the child as a liturgical being independent of their place in the family, and explore how the church can best serve the sacramental and liturgical initiation of the child. Topics explored will include liturgical catechesis, the Grow in Love programme, prayer, and also liturgy for children with special needs.
